AGTS MAINTENANCE FACILITY EXPANSION
Denver International Airport
With a rapid increase in passenger traffic at Denver International Airport, additional cars were ordered to increase rider capacity on the train system that connects each of the concourses with the airport terminal. The train maintenance facility is located at the end of the track system and it's expansion was required to serve the longer trains. Construction completion prior to delivery of the simultaneously contracted German train cars was critical.
The tunnel addition is now temporarily covered by a metal building with an innovative foundation design to accommodate the dynamic loads of airplane traffic overhead when the tunnel is expanded to future concourses.
The project required extremely heavy demolition, unusual engineering considerations, complex phasing, and critical dust and vibration control within an active construction environment in order to ensure the uninterrupted train operation and continued maintenance crucial to 24-7 airport operations.
